Friday Favorites 01

Hey Everyone and welcome to Friday Favorites! This is a weekly meme hosted by Tressa’s Wishful Endings that spotlights a favorite author, book, series, publisher, cover, blog etc. Basically, anything and everything bookish to show some love, recommend and want to tell others about.

This week’s Friday Favorite is

Fangirl By Rainbow Rowell

17286849

Summary: (Goodreads)

A coming-of-age tale of fan fiction, family and first love.

Cath is a Simon Snow fan.

Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan . . .

But for Cath, being a fan is her life — and she’s really good at it. She and her twin sister, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow series when they were just kids; it’s what got them through their mother leaving.

Reading. Rereading. Hanging out in Simon Snow forums, writing Simon Snow fan fiction, dressing up like the characters for every movie premiere.

Cath’s sister has mostly grown away from fandom, but Cath can’t let go. She doesn’t want to.

Now that they’re going to college, Wren has told Cath she doesn’t want to be roommates. Cath is on her own, completely outside of her comfort zone. She’s got a surly roommate with a charming, always-around boyfriend, a fiction-writing professor who thinks fan fiction is the end of the civilized world, a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words . . . And she can’t stop worrying about her dad, who’s loving and fragile and has never really been alone.

For Cath, the question is: Can she do this?

Can she make it without Wren holding her hand? Is she ready to start living her own life? Writing her own stories?

And does she even want to move on if it means leaving Simon Snow behind?

I think that this book is so awesome! I love it so, so much that it totally deserves a Friday Favorite spot! This is book is about my life- well not really… but I could totally relate to the whole fingerling part as I used to write Harry Potter fan fiction. YES! I used to write Harry Potter fan fiction. Anyways, like I said that book is an awesome one. If you have a hankering for some contemporary books, this should be first on the list. Fangirl is definitely a coming of age story, but not like those that we have seen before. It has so many unique elements that make it stand out. Rainbow Rowell did an amazing job with the plot, the character developments and her writing style is just so amazing. Please check out this book when you can! I promise you that you won’t be disappointed!

My Thoughts

I absolutely adore this book! Everything about this book is absolutely fabulous! This was the first Rainbow Rowell book that I’ve read (yes, I have not read Eleanor and Park… please don’t hate me! ) so I honestly did not know what to expect in terms of plot content and writing style. Basically, I did not know what to expect period and the only thing I have going for me were all of the ah- mazing things people were saying about this book. I can honestly say that I was pretty impressed, relieved and satisfied with this book. I was impressed by how Fangirl turned out, plot line and character development wise, relieved that it did not suck, and satisfied with the general content.

The plot line was awesome as it focused on Cath and everything that she goes through as she transitions into a new stage in life. It was happy, funny, sad, and  infuriating at some times. This book had everything and I loved that! Cath was such an amazing character. She was very relate-able too because I used to write Harry Potter fan fiction! Also, you can clearly see the changes within Cath as the book progresses. Although she was a little to introverted, I still enjoyed reading about this character. In addition, I thought that Levi and Reagan were written really well. They were the spice to the plot line. Their lines were so funny. Reagan said a couple of stuff that were kind of mean but it was funny at the same time.

Overall, Fangirl is such a fun book to read. It’s awesomely well- written and I think that a lot of people can relate to Cath especially those fangirls out there. I love Rainbow Rowell’s writing! It’s original and totally entertaining. I am looking forward to reading her other two novels, Eleanor and Park as well as Attachments!

#6 The Evolution of Mara Dyer By Michelle Hodkin

Despite the fact that this book will probably give me the heebie-jeebies throughout the evening while I’m all alone at night, it’s a risk that I am willing to take for this book. Yep, believe or not. This book is so psychologically awesome! It’s nothing that I’ve ever read before. Michelle Hodkin did such a fabulous job.

#5 Shatter Me By Tahereh Mafi

This amazing read will probably save me through countless hours of boredom! I absolutely enjoyed reading this book the first time around and I highly doubt that it’ll change in the future.

#4 The Archived By Victoria Schwab

This book will help me keep me on my toes. It’ll always remind to continue to persevere and basically to always remain brave in order to survive.

d1a88-addtogoodreadsblack

#3 Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows By J.K. Rowling

This book… oh man, this book… this book is such a big part of me; a big part of who I am. So in order to keep myself together on that deserted island, I must have this book with me. Plus, there is a lot about this book that would be enough reason to do what it takes to survive. It may not tell me specifically or step by step how to survive but just by knowing that the book is with me, what it signifies, will push my drive to live even further. A bit melodramatic?! I think not!!!

#2 Fangirl By Rainbow Rowell

Like Harry Potter, this book represents so much of who I am. I AM A FANGIRL AND I AM PROUD OF IT!!!

And my #1 pick is…

*DRUMROLL*

#1 Throne of Glass By Sarah J .Maas

OMG!!! THE BOOK THAT I ABSOLUTELY CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT!!! This book is so amazing. If I were to perish in a deserted island, I’d die happy with this book in my hands! This is such a great read and a definite re- read. I have a copy of this book on an ebook format but I need a physical copy so I’m currently working on that 😀

Coffee Shop Musings: Bookish Pet Peeves

Musings

Coffee Shop Musings is a spin- off of Musings Monday that is originally hosted by Should Be Reading. This weekly feature spotlights occasionally bookish topics. This week’s topic is:

Bookish Pet Peeves

disgusted-again

The following are a couple of bookish pet peeves of physical book copies that totally irks me out. Now, some of them may bother other people as well and some of them may not. This is all based on my preferences, personal opinions and OCB (Obsessive, Compulsive, & Bookish) habits. OK here we go!

Book Cover Changes. YES! Book cover changes has to be the first on this list. If there is one thing that will instantly infuriate me, it will have to be cook cover changes. I love to collect books just as much as I love reading them and I love it when all my covers match! Oh oh oh what kills me the most is, when the cover of the FINAL book in a series changes! Ugh! That suuuuucks so much! When you have collected all 10 books in the series and the 11th and final book in the series goes through a cover change… *BOOM* all the rage of the world goes through you!

tumblr_ls38tlKWmH1qii6tmo1_400

Different Book Height. There is a reason why I like purchasing an entire series in either paperback or hardcover, and never a mix, is because I want my books to be uniform in height. But even for some series, hardcovers and paperbacks come in different sizes. WHY IS THAT?!  Take the Mortal Instruments for example. The first 3 paperback books, City of Bones, Ashes and Glass, were released in a standard paperback size. Next things I know, City of Fallen Angels and Lost Souls were released in even taller paperback sized books. What the heck…What. The. Heck! Same goes for hardcovers! There should be a standard size for paperbacks and hardcovers. Or if they must have different heights, all I ask is to please release the series in similar height!

Scratches, Dents, Writing and Highlights on Books. Now it upsets me when the last copy of the book that I’m looking to buy is the last copy on the shelf has a tear or a fold on it’s spine or cover orrr when I order a book online, paid full price for it, waited for 21 days for it to arrive, only to see that it’s damaged really makes me sad. In addition to that, there would be times that I would lend my books out to friends in perfect condition, only to have it returned with writings, highlights, folds and tears within the pages and it just brings me to tears… See, I take really good care of my books and I try to keep them in as perfect condition as I could and I only ask the same from the people I lend my books to and the places I get them from. Cuz otherwise, I might go all like…

Mad_cas_gif_by_agigi111

JUST KIDDING!!!

Those are some of my bookish pet peeves 😀 Yes, I know. I am crazy and pretty anal when it comes to collecting books. But hey, what can I say?! I love books and I like having a pretty collection. I try to avoid these pet peeves as much as possible and if I can’t welllll, I usually deal with it and hope for the best.

What are your bookish pet peeves?
