My Thoughts
I remember picking up my copy of this book at the local bookstore. The title had pulled me in almost instantly and when I read the summary I was instantly hooked and I knew I needed to read it. I am definitely a sucker for romance books especially around Valentines day. Anyway, enough about me, let’s talk about the book. So basically, Alex Flinn’s Beastly is a modern adaptation of the Beauty and the Beast fairytale. One of my favorite things about this book is how the general concepts of the original story had been adapted in this book yet it has been influenced by modern times, making it unique in its own way. (Make sense? ^_^’). Like instead of taking place in a French countryside, the plot took place in modern time New York, instead of having a castle, he lives at a high-end loft, instead of being portrayed (literally) as a prince, he was the most hottest, most richest, most popular, and the most perfect boy in school. While the female protagonist was the daughter of a druggie. I absolutely enjoyed reading the modern twists to this fairytale. If you are an avid reader of teen romance, or looking for something fun, enjoyable and easy, you should definitely consider reading this book.
While we are on the subject, a film adaptation of the book was released last year. The movie starred Vanessa Hudgens as Lindy and… drumroll…
Alex Pettyfer as Kyle Kingsbury. Want to watch the movie now? or again? 😉
In comparison to the book, the movie covered almost all of the important concepts that was in the book but c’mon we all have to admit that the movie could never be 100% like the book. Otherwise, we’d be sitting in that theater for hours on end. Although the only thing that bothered me about the movie is Kyle’s beast form. Look at the 3rd picture above. Does that look like a beast to you? No. He looks like a typical rebel- without- a- cause- kind of guy with a couple of bad vein- looking tattoos and is in dire need of reconstructive surgery. I was kind of expecting something a little more different. Anyways, the movie was fun to watch and as you can tell, it was a total chick- flick 🙂 And here’s the trailer to prove it!
